The Rules of Basketball
When playing
basketball, it is important to be aware of the game's basic
regulations. This article will give you the basic rules to help you
play the game properly.
First, there are two teams of five each that play on a court, trying
to move the ball to the opposite end and throw it into the basket to
make a score. Each team is given a designated goal to defend, with
the team in possession of the ball called the offense, and the team
trying to block them from scoring as the defence. The defence slows
the opposite team down by trying to steal the ball, blocking passes,
and using defensive strategies to defeat their efforts. The offense
uses patterns of movement and passing to move the ball down the
floor to the opposite goal. Shooting from outside of the
semicircular key will net the offense a three-point score, whereas
inside they receive two points.
Complex isn't it?
But there is nothing difficult about deciding on the best UK

If a foul or violation is committed during play, the referee can
award the ball to the opposing team or allow a player a certain
number of shots at the freethrow line. A personal foul occurs if a
person has illegal physical contact with another player and a
technical foul can be called on a coach for improper conduct during
the game. Violations can include travelling (carrying the ball
without dribbling), dribbling the ball with both hands, restrictions
on how long a team has to pass a ball, and many others.
The teams are made up of the major positions of centre, guard, and
forward. The centre passes and shoots the ball, blocking shots and
passes, and rebounds. The guard is the workhorse, getting the ball
down the court and are usually the shorter players on the team. The
forward is the man who takes the shots from the outside, stops
drives to the goal and rebounds, being more of the taller players on
the team.
These teams, using offensive and defensive patterns, work to get the
ball to their end of the court and score within the time limitations
of the quarters that mark the different sections of the game. In
these rules lies the structure and beauty that make basketball an
exciting game to play and learn.
